Never thought I’d be excited for a mere EP. But then again this is no ordinary EP. Await for Skylar’s debut album.

This track may not have a video and it may be from a Electro/House producer but not a single element of computer generated sound can be heard on this track because this is the Ice Mix.
“Room For Happiness” is off Kaskade’s seventh album Fire & Ice and has also a Fire mix which is dominantly electronic as opposed to the Ice Mix. This version boasts a set of beautifully haunting vocals on an equally haunting piano roll by a highly emotional Skylar Grey. A true Kaskade fan might find it hard to believe that this is actually a Kaskade single.
Featured on this post is the stripped down Ice Mix and is therefore a must listen. If you don’t love this you don’t love music.

Psst: You’ve probably heard this before in passing.
“Coming Home” was originally featured on the Diddy’s Dirty Money album with Skylar Grey appearing towards the very end. Now due to popular demand the songstress behind some of the greatest hits of this year and last has decided to release the original solo versions of these tracks as an EP.
Above is Skylar’s original rendition retitled to “Coming Home Pt II” aimed at the military men & women returning from their stint in the middle east.
Below is the original version of Lupe Fiasco’s “Words I Never Said” before he butchered it into a controversial politically charged track. According to Skylar, this track was written for her late grandfather.
Both of the above tracks are stripped down instrumental versions of the originals produced & written by Skylar Grey herself. A must listen for people who are new to this swagnificent and emo’ish songstress. Also check out her official tracks; Invisible & Dance Without You, which will appear on her debut solo album Invinsible with a ‘S’ dropping 2012.
The EP is to be titled The Buried Sessions of Skylar Grey and will be released on iTunes on the 17th of January 2012. The EP will also feature the original demo of Eminem’s hit single “Love The Way You Lie”.

With having credited for penning some of the biggest hits of last year as well as this year, Skylar Grey (Holly Brook) is back with her second solo effort off her upcoming album Invinsible. Unfortunately it was reported by the songstress herself at the MTV VMA 2011 that her album was pushed back to early 2012 due to unknown reasons.
As for this track I’ve got nothing but praise for it. Whilst her debut video & single “Dance Without You” turned out to be a cult favorite, this single is something for everyone feeling down in the dumps, invisible and neglected. A beautiful piece of music produced by yet again the man responsible for some of the biggest alternative hip hop hits of last year, Alex Da Kid.
In an interview to a well reputed music website Grey stated that her current sound is ” …commercial, yet avant-garde…”, with “…cinematic beats and atmospheric hooks…”, and “…sonically I can tell you that every song sounds different and it’s really diverse, kind of going from cinematic to fun to dark. Alex and I really push each other creatively…”.
Thankfully unlike many other artistes out there she kept her promise by making her second single sound totally different to her first. She has said to have recorded a duet with Marilyn Manson.

From YouTube to mainstream concert audiences Karmin (car-men) is now a mainstream musical duo.
Skylar Grey video bombs half through the performance.
This video is creepy, scary and downright confusing. Therefore it is a must WATCH!
After much deliberation and Googling I was able to figure out what this video meant. The brunette is Holy Brooks (SG’s real name) and the dark haired hottie with the white highlights is the modern day Skylar Grey. The video shows the brunette inside a white room dressed in a hospital gown, waiting.
Simply put this is the transformation of Holly Brooks to a moody and dark Skylar Grey.

The second effort from the “I Need a Doctor” hitmaker and this time a totally different style and approach. A very mid tempo single with a genuine set of lyrics of finding her self and her strength to weather through thick and thin.
In case you were dissatisfied with her debut effort “Dance With You” then this is definitely for you, unless you are into dance/electro which this is not.

So this single which supposedly is Skylar’s debut single of her upcoming album, came as a remarkable surprise. After hearing the teaser I wasn’t that impressed maybe because it was just a teaser after all but I must say that her debut effort is well spent.
This Alex Da Kid produced track is very much different to all other singles he has produced so far (Airplanes, Love The Way You Lie, Coming Home, Words I Never Said etc.) and it is also a total change in Skylar Grey’s usual style (Love The Way You Lie, Coming Home, Words I Never Said etc.) of music.
This track sounds very tribal and in a modern kind of sense its very moody. The melody is based on a slight beat box under a heavy sequence of drum beats with a very tribal kind of harmonizing in the background. You’ll start liking it after a few listens because this isn’t the kind of song you’ll fall in love with at the first listen.
Bottom line; Very different but PERFECT!
